Prince Edward County council will likely open a discussion on allowing chickens to be kept on residential properties in and around urban areas.
At its meeting today, council’s Committee of the Whole will see a staff recommendation that a public consultation be held on a draft “backyard hen” by-law before any final decision is made.
The county has received many requests to allow small chicken coops in urban areas.
The draft by-law would allow only a maximum of six egg-laying hens per owner. No roosters would be permitted.
The Committee of the Whole meets virtually this afternoon at 1 o’clock.
