The Belleville Police Service responded to 101 calls for service from July 8, 2020 at 5 a.m. to July 9, 2020 at 5 a.m.
Impaired Driving
On July 8, 2020 at approximately 8 p.m., police dispatch was notified by multiple callers of an SUV with a broken axle travelling on Wallbridge-Loyalist Rd. Further reports advised that the SUV crossed the centre lane and nearly struck another oncoming vehicle head on. Multiple police units attended the area. The vehicle was not located on Wallbridge-Loyalist Rd. and information was received that the suspect vehicle made its way into the city on Moira St. W.
Police located the suspect SUV on Everett St. at Catherine St. in damaged condition but still operational. The male driver was arrested for impaired driving and transported back to the Belleville Police Service to provide samples of his breath.
Tests concluded that the accused’s blood alcohol content exceeded the legal limit. The accused, 31-year-old William McInnis of Marlbank, was charged with the following offences;
- Impaired Driving
- Operation of a Motor Vehicle While Blood/Alcohol Content Exceeded 80mgs
- Suspended Drive – 2 counts
- Use Plates Not Authorized
- Drive – No Insurance
- Operate Unsafe Vehicle
- Operate Vehicle – No Ownership
- Fail to Display Two Plates
- Operate Motor Vehicle – No Seat Belt
City police impounded the vehicle for seven days and suspended the driver’s licence for an additional 90 days under the provincial legislation. The accused will attend the Belleville Ontario Court of Justice on August 6, 2020 to answer to his charges.
EMS Assist – Drug Overdose
On July 8, 2020 at approximately 9:50 a.m., city police were contacted by City EMS requesting assistance with a female who had overdosed on drugs and was unresponsive. As officers were on the way to the west park residence, they were notified by EMS that the victim was revived and was extremely combative with EMS crews. Police arrived on scene and were able to assist the medics in restraining the victim and attended Belleville General Hospital with EMS to ensure her safety. The 41-year-old female victim was safely transported to BGH and treated.
Disturbance with a Machete
On July 8, 2020 at approximately 10:30 p.m., city police received a call about a male chasing people with a machete in the Bogart Crescent and Palmer Rd. area. When police arrived on scene, they were advised that the suspect with the machete left in a vehicle. Officers located the suspect vehicle quickly on Palmer Rd. and conducted a vehicle stop. A male and female youth in the vehicle were detained by the officers and a machete was located in the vehicle.
Further investigation revealed that the suspect with the machete did not, in fact, chase people while carrying the weapon. Police were advised that a small group of youths were arguing over ex-boyfriends in which one was in possession of the machete. All the individuals involved in the incident were identified by the police and the investigation is continuing. Charges may be pending.
Theft of Laptop Computer
On July 8, 2020 at approximately 6:45 p.m., police were notified by a female complainant that she parked her vehicle in the parking lot at a southwest plaza and an unknown suspect stole her laptop computer off the front passenger seat. The complainant advised police that she did not lock her car doors and she was only in one of the department stores for approximately 15 – 20 minutes. Police checked local stores for any possible CCTV footage but were advised that no video was available.
