Summer is here and downtown Belleville is making the most of the beautiful weather with the Al Fresco open-air experience.
One of the highlights of Al Fresco will be Prismatica, an illuminated art installation which has made appearances in Switzerland, England and Chicago.
Prismatica will be live in downtown Belleville starting Friday, July 17 until August 16.
“Al Fresco has been designed not only to feature but to celebrate the outdoors in a micro-urban setting,” says Marijo Cuerrier, Downtown District BIA Executive Director. “Prismatica is the highlight of our summer experience, helping to bring joy and light to our community. ”Prismatica consists of 25 pivoting prisms more than two metres tall. Each one is made of panels covered with a dichroic film that reflects the colours of the rainbow, varying with the light source and viewing angle creating a kaleidoscope of colours. Wind will help the prisms spin, creating an eye-catching lighting effect for viewers. Incredible to see during the daytime and further enhanced when the sun goes down. Take a stroll through the prism forest on Front Street and give them a spin to see the rainbow of colours in motion.
“Prismatica is an experience usually reserved for the big urban centres. The generous contribution from City Council and City Staff, along with our Downtown District businesses, has made this installation possible for everyone to enjoy right here in Downtown Belleville,”says Kathryn Brown, Downtown District BIA Board Chair and owner of Kate’s Kitchen. Parking is currently free downtown and able-bodied visitors are encouraged to park in the municipal lots by the river to leave the on-street parking for those with mobility challenges to make it a pleasant experience for all.
