Some Belleville city projects under consideration are being delayed by the COVID-19 shutdown.
Earlier this year the city bought land on Farnham Road in Thurlow Ward, just north of the traffic circle.
Mayor Mitch Panciuk tells Quinte News the COVID situation delayed any decisions on how the land will be used.
Panciuk says he thinks it should be community land but it’s not just his decision to make.
The company GCL had planned to build a small apartment building on the land, that transformed into a proposed 10 semi-detached houses. The city rejected the company proposals and eventually bought the land for $400,000.
Mayor Panciuk also commented, “All the capital projects we approved last year are going ahead. Some of them are going to have to be modified as we just get a better sense of the whole situation with what COVID is doing. For example, Avondale Road; it’s out for bids right now. It may be that we do half of it in 2020 and the second half in 2021. A lot will depend on those bids.”
The situation at the former Hillcrest School site that the city now owns, is also affected by COVID-19.
