Even with all of the uncertainty due to COVID-19, Quinte West’s Economic Development and Tourism Committee is still directing staff to start putting together a request for proposals, for a new tourism strategy.
The committee is also suggesting using $30,000 from the Municipal Accommodation Tax to pay for the project.
At least one committee member suggested holding off on approving the idea, but many others including Councillor Leslie Roseblade, felt things should continue to move forward.
Public Member Rosi Ouelette agreed it was better to be ready to go when things return to normal.
The city hasn’t engaged with tourism-related stakeholders since 2016 and staff felt it was good timing to move forward with the recent approval of the new strategic plan.
