Northumberland County is getting some cash from the province to help deal with some of the social issues stemming from COVID-19.
The Provincial Government has announced more than $1.3 million to “help protect the health and safety of the province’s most vulnerable people in response to the outbreak”.
Northumberland County officials will decide exactly how the money is split, but the province says it should go to social service providers like homeless shelters, food banks, emergency services, charities and non-profits, to help support the critical services they deliver.
The money is part of a broader $148 million commitment Ontario-wide, to help those types of organizations hire staff, buy more personal protective equipment, or find ways to support people while they’re in self-isolation, or practising social distancing.
