Residents are being reminded that burn bans are in place across most of the Quinte Region.
That’s in addition to provincial measures put in place this past Friday, affecting a large area of Northern Ontario.
Most of the local rules were put in place last week, in order to limit call outs and potential exposure of COVID-19, to fire crews.
Anyone who violates a burn ban is subject to fines and other possible punishments.
The province says the provincial burn ban will remain in effect “until Ontario’s ability to respond to emergencies is no longer impacted by the COVID-19 outbreak”.
If you’re unsure if your area is covered by a burn ban, you should contact your fire department through their non-emergency line.
NOTE: An earlier version of this story referenced a province-wide burn ban, which actually only affects a large portion of Northern Ontario. Local burn bans do remain in effect.
