The City of Belleville is sending a strong message about what social distancing means, by closing all of its parks, playgrounds and now the city’s dog park, to prevent gatherings of more than five people.
The announcement comes on the heels of the Provincial Government placing a limit on how many people can get together at one time, to try and limit the spread of COVID-19.
Mayor Mitch Panciuk tells Quinte News the city decided to close playgrounds last week, but the province has now put more stringent measures in place.
The mayor added that if you’re healthy, it’s important to get out and exercise, but it has to be done in a socially responsible way.
Panciuk says city by-law officers will be working in cooperation with the Belleville Police Service to make sure everyone is following the rules and could issue fines or more severe penalties to anyone who isn’t doing that.
All indoor city facilities will remain closed until further notice.
