– Today Mayor Mitch Panciuk and CAO Rod Bovay participated in a regularly scheduled conference call with representatives from Hastings Prince Edward Public Health (HPEPH), Hastings County, Quinte West and Prince Edward County among other community partners. HPEPH provided updates and the opportunity to ask questions. One of the recommendations that came from the Health Unit was to close all City playgrounds – an action previously decided by the City’s Parks and Open Spaces Department which was then reinforced by these recommendations.
Residents have been cautioned to practice social distancing as much as possible. It is important to remember this precaution applies to all ages, not just adults. It is recommended that a minimum of two metres be kept to prevent the spread of the virus. This, in combination with the inability to properly sanitize playground equipment, determined today’s action. For the safety of children within our community the decision has been made to close the playgrounds during this time.
The following locations have swing sets or swing sets separate to the play equipment. The swings will either be removed or wrapped around the top rail and secured to prevent access.

Residents are assured their garbage will be collected with or without tags as we are encouraging people to stay inside and it is important they follow this whenever possible.
