The Hastings Prince Edward Medical Officer of Health has clarified the testing process for those Quinte area people in self-isolation for COVID-19.
Dr. Piotr Oglaza tells Quinte News not all of the 35 probable cases in self-isolation are being tested for the coronavirus.
Oglaza says public health officials are looking at their signs and symptoms and at some point they might be tested, but there are not enough test kits to test all of the self-isolation cases.
Oglaza says they are monitored on a daily basis by public health staff.
He continued, “The recommendation for self-isolation is for returning travellers for areas outside of Canada. The measures are to ensure that these returning travellers, if they develop symptoms 14 days from their return, are not spreading the infection to others. If they develop signs of symptoms they should call public health and we would be looking at what their signs and symptoms are, as well as their travel history. We would the be making a determination if they are a probable case.”
