Training Volunteers for Hospice Quinte

A new round of volunteer training for Hospice Quinte Visiting Volunteers gets underway this spring.

Hospice Quinte is looking for people interested in becoming part of the group of volunteers who give comfort and care to patients , caregivers and families during the end of life.

Executive Director Jennifer May-Anderson says “dedicated volunteers have an incredible impact on the lives of patients.”

She says volunteers fill the gap between family members and professional caregivers.

The Visiting Volunteer training program will take place from April 7 to June 9 at Quinte West Library.

Topics covered over the 10-week training program include, introduction to Hospice Quinte, and Hospice palliative care, the role of the volunteer, and comfort measures.

Volunteers must be 18 years of age or older and not have experienced a significant loss within the past year.

Anyone interested in becoming a Hospice Quinte Visiting Volunteer can apply online at HospiceQuinte.ca. The deadline for applications is March 23.  Selected candidates will be called for a screening interview and will be required to provide a criminal record check with vulnerable sector search.

Hospice Quinte changes the lives of the terminally ill, their families, and the bereaved for the better by offering them support and companionship through visiting hospice services and support groups.  All Hospice Quinte programs and services are provided by compassionate and well-trained volunteers and staff at no charge to the individual or family.
