A railway blockade east of Belleville is going to have continued impacts on VIA Rail travellers into Tuesday.
A statement from VIA says all departures between Montreal and Toronto, Toronto and Ottawa, and Toronto and Kingston are being cancelled, up until at least 2 p.m.
The company says it’s “hopeful a resolution can be reached”, but due to the uncertainty of the situation, reservations can be cancelled for a full refund up to two days ahead of scheduled departure in stations during opening hours or by calling the VIA Customer Center at 1-888-VIA-RAIL (1-888 842-7245).
The statement says the refund applies only to all services affected by the blockades as well as related connections. VIA is suggesting that anyone who needs to travel in the next few days should use an alternate service, becuase they “don’t have the capability of providing one”.
Another blockade in BC is causing disruptions to service there as well, as Indigenous groups protest the installation of a pipeline project on the west coast.
