The only constant is change and the new Director of Education for the Hastings Prince Edward District School Board feels now is a great time for potential changes to be made.
Sean Monteith, presented his HPEDSB: Moving Ahead report to the board at their regular meeting on Monday night in Belleville.
Monteith has ten working goals for this school year, which include things like public confidence, board of trustees empowerment, staff engagement and building culture.
The report was made at the request of the trustees at a special meeting held earlier this month and Monteith hopes this report and the ten working goals will be used as part of a performance evaluation for him going forward.
Monteith said through the report one thing remained consistent; an uncompromising focus on students.
He said challenges will be expected and embraced, as this board has been through some tough years, but they are heading towards their finest hour.
Monteith said these goals are lofty yet achievable if staff, the board of trustees, community partners, families and students work together and begin their journey forward.
He continued by saying he felt this was the ideal time to set these goals as the board has a unique opportunity to review processes and cultural practices, with a change at the senior management level, and with work to begin within the next 60 days on the new five year strategic plan.
He says the strategic plan will be ready to be presented to the board for approval in the spring.
The working goals set out in the HPEDSB: Working Ahead are as follows:
- Tone and building culture
- Staff engagement
- Board of Trustees empowerment
- Recognition and acceptance of challenges and opportunities
- Empowerment of principals and vice-principals to be leaders of student achievement
- Autonomy
- Reconciliation with Indigenous partners/advocates for social justice
- Community engagement
- Mentorship
- Public confidence
