Correctional Officers at Joyceville Institution have seized more than $26,000 worth of contraband.
Officers in the assessment unit intercepted inmates who were allegedly trying to smuggle in more than 111 grams of tobacco and more than 153 grams of marijuana, this past Sunday.
The value of the seized items is what that contraband is worth inside the institution and is increased by the fact that a complete smoking ban was implemented in all federal correctional facilities in 2008.
Police have been notified and will be investigating, along with Correctional Service of Canada staff.
The seizure is part of an ongoing campaign to stop contraband from entering federal institutions.
