It should be smooth sailing for those headed westbound on the 401 at this hour.
An earlier collision caused both lanes of the 401 to be closed at Hwy. 37 or Cannifton Road.
At one point, the traffic backlog was over seven kilometers long.

There is a major traffic backlog on the westbound Highway 401 this hour.
511 Ontario is reporting all lanes blocked westbound at Highway 37, or Cannifton Road, but no other details are immediately available.
Drivers heading west towards Belleville will want to get off the highway at Shannonville Road to avoid the backlog, wich stretches almost to the Mitchell Road overpass.
The road is expected to be reopened just after 4:00 p.m.
