Two local Liberal MPs are praising a massive federal investment in the Easteron Ontario Regional Network.
The Government of Canada is committing $71 million to the project through the Investing in Canada Plan’s Rural and Northern Infrastructure Stream.
Bay of Quinte MP Neil Ellis and Hastings-Lennox and Addington MP Mike Bossio say the investment is a crucial moment for residents in the area, with EORN helping to get rural residents up to speed with the rest of the country when it comes to connectivity through internet and cell service.
The first phase of the project will see 317 new telecommunications towers built, with an added 32 local internet access points, while phase two will identify areas of heavy traffic, and upgrade equipment to reduce gaps and overloads.
The province will match the federal investment with another $71 million, the Eastern Ontario Warden’s Caucus will pitch in $10 million and the rest of the project will be funded through private partners.
