The Federal Government is leasing a new bird migration monitoring station to a wildlife area in Prince Edward County.
MP Neil Ellis made the announcement at the Prince Edward Point Bird Observatory in Milford on Monday, with the volunteer group’s goal to teach visitors about bird migration and bird banding activities.
The station, being funded through the Connecting Canadians to Nature initiative, is solar-powered and features anti-collision glass, so the birds won’t get hurt, as well as a large viewing window to allow visitors to see inside.
The Prince Edward National Wildlife Area was chosen as a location because it is one of the busiest bird mirgration areas, featuring thousands of migratory birds that pass through every spring and fall.
