A Quinte West man has been sentenced in connection with a murder plot against his ex-girlfriend, as well as a pair of Quinte area break-ins in 2018.
Justice Robert Scott sentenced David Wanvig in Belleville Court this week after he pleaded guilty to charges of counselling to commit murder, assault, voyeurism, two counts of breaking and entering and one count of breaking and entering to commit murder.
He had planned to break in to his ex-girlfriend’s house and commit a rape and murder, but never went through with it.
While Justice Scott felt six years was an appropriate sentence, for what he said would have been a “thrill killing” had it been carried out, Wanvig was given credit for time already served and time spent on restrictive bail conditions.
The total sentence will see Wanvig serve five years in jail, in connection with the murder plot, along with a total nine months concurrent for the break-ins at Blue Vapours and Marshman Jewellers, another three months concurrent on the voyeurism charge and a month concurrent for the assault.
He’ll also be added to the sex offender registry for 20 years, the DNA data bank and will face a 10-year weapons ban once he’s released from custody.
