Only a small number of residents remain in short term accommodations following an apartment fire in Picton on the weekend.
Prince Edward Lennox and Addington Social Services says as of Monday evening, nine of 13 households returned to their units at 113 West Mary Street.
Two units were completely destroyed and will require rebuilding and the last two units require significant smoke remediation work, with only one unit covered by tenant insurance.
Those who were not displaced were able to return to their homes by 8:30 Saturday evening.
Prince Edward County Fire and Rescue responded quickly to the blaze and contained it to the northeast corner of the building.
Fire Chief Scott Manlow estimates damages to be $250,000. He says the fire was caused by an overheated power bar in one of the apartments.
