It’s Bike Month in the Hastings and Prince Edward Area.
The joint initiative between HPE Public Health and area municipalities has a theme this year of “give space and be seen”, emphasizing that both cyclists and drivers share the responsibility of keeping everyone safe on area roads.
Among the tips being given out, drivers are reminded to provide at least three feet of space when passing a cyclist, while cyclists should be sure to wear bright coloured clothing and use reflectors and lights on their bikes.
Both bicycles and cars are also expected to follow all of the rules of the road, including proper signalling and use of bike lanes.
There are also a number of events marking the occasion through the month of June including:
● Ride to School with the Mayor (Belleville) – Friday, June 7
● CFB Trenton Surf N’ Turf – Friday, June 14
● Doug and Henry’s 50/50 Fondo – Saturday, June 15
● Father’s Day Bike Event – Sunday, June 16
● Kids Bike Rodeo at the Children’s Safety Village – Sunday, June 23
