A grade eight student at Trenton High School has earned another shot to compete at the Major League Baseball All Star Week festivities this summer.
Brianna DeMille, who plays for the Quinte West Mudcats, has punched a ticket into the third round of the MLB’s Pitch, Hit and Run competition for the fourth year in a row, after recently winning a regional and sectional competition.
This weekend DeMille will be at Rogers Centre, for the Toronto Blue Jays Team Championship, one of 30 being held at ballparks across the league.
More than 600,000 youth ball players across North America take part in the Pitch, Hit and Run competition, which tests skills and abilities including pitching accuracy, hitting distance and running speed.
Players accumulate points based on how they perform, with the player who earns the most points overall being declred the winner.
DeMille is one of just three players from Ontario, in the 13 to 14 year-old age group, who will compete this weekend.
If she scores high enough she’ll earn a chance at a National Championship, during the MLB All Star Week, July 5 to July 9 in Cleveland.
