Community Living Quinte West looking to build short-term respite centre

Community Living Quinte West is hoping to celebrate its 60th anniversary with a groundbreaking new project for the Quinte Region and by launching the Dream Machine Fundraising Campaign.

The campaign is asking for donations of three dollars per month to help convert the current Community Living offices on Canal Street in Trenton into a seven-bed, short-term respite centre and to buy some accessible vans, to expand home care services into Frankford and Sidney Wards.

Community Living Board President Brent Hoddinott tells Quinte News there is plenty of need in the community for that type of facility, which would be run out of their current building on Canal Street in Trenton.

The centre would host clients for stays of one to 14 days and would be staffed 24/7 giving a break to families who care for their loved ones all the time and also providing emergency and urgent care.

Community Living Quinte West Executive Director Ian Harper told council that could take some stress off local hospitals as well.

Harper adds that if the project comes to fruition it would be the first of its kind for the Quinte Region.

In order to make room for the respite centre, Community Living Quinte West is moving its head office to downtown Trenton.
