Early damage estimates from a fire on Stockdale Road Thursday afternoon are pegged in the $300,000 range.
Quinte West Fire Chief John Whelan says 27 firefighters were needed to battle the blaze at 251 Stockdale Road, just north of Highway 401, which broke out just before 11:30 a.m.
Whelan says Mayor Jim Harrison’s son Jeff was the first person to notice smoke and call the fire in and says Harrison kicked in the door of the home to make sure nobody was inside, helping to get a couple of pets to safety.
He adds that some horses were moved from a nearby building on the property as a precautionary measure and says nobody was injured.
The early indication is that the fire started outside of the home, near an electrical panel, but OPP and fire investigators are still on scene.
