After a shootout win on Friday Belleville Senators ended up splitting their series in Grand Rapids this weekend, falling 5-2 to the Griffins last night, in a loss that can mostly be blamed on the ineffectiveness of the penalty kill.
The B-Sens gave up four power play goals on five penalty kills, including three of them during a 2:34 stretch of the second period.
Morgan Klimchuk had a goal and an assist in his Belleville debut, with Logan Brown also scoring, for his third point in as many games.
Vili Saarijarvi and fromer Senators’ prospect Matt Puempel each had a goal and two assists for the Griffins, with Axel Holmstrom, Turner Elson and Wade Megan also tallying.
Carter Camper had four helpers for Grand Rapids.
Filip Gustavsson made 21 saves on 26 shots, while the B-Sens put 43 shots on Harri Sateri at the other end.
The loss means the B-Sens and Griffins split their first ever season series 2-2.
The B-Sens will take on the Laval Rocket on Wednesday as their road trip continues.
