There was a bit of a scary situation this afternoon for a pair of Belleville Police officers.
Police were called to the Comfort Inn on North Front Street for a report of a person in distress just after noon, where they found a 25-year-old man from St. Thomas.
While dealing with that situation, officers believed they had encountered a noxious substance and were taken to hospital as a precaution.
Staff Sergeant Rene Aubertin tells Quinte News those officers were assessed and were expected to be released late Wednesday afternoon.
The man is still being assessed and no charges will be laid.
Comfort Inn General Manager Paul Armstrong says the hotel has been given the all clear and they were following protocol to call police and EMS when an incident of this nature occurs.
