Staff at Warkworth Institution say an inmate has been seriously hurt after an assault at the Campbellford area prison.
The injured inmate was found around 7:00 last night and was taken to an outside hospital for treatment.
The attacker has been identified and Assistant Warden Anne Marie Joyce says “appropriate actions have been taken”.
Details of the incident weren’t released, but prison staff say they and OPP are investigating and that nobody else was hurt.
