The vigilance of staff at Warkworth Institution is being credited with finding a package containing drugs and contraband items earlier this month.
Staff seized a package on January 4, which contained 622 grams of marijuana and 423 grams of tobacco, which have a combined institutional value of close to $70,000.
Details of how the package was found were not released and no charges have been laid.
Assistant Warden Anne Marie Joyce says a lockdown was put in place and a full search of the institution was ordered, but operations have since returned to normal.
The Correctional Service of Canada is continuing to heighten measures to prevent contraband from entering its facilities, including a complete smoking ban in all federal corrections facilities in 2008.
