The Fair Workplaces, Better Jobs act has only been in place for a week, but local chambers of commerce say small businesses in our region are already feeling negative effects.
Both the Belleville and Quinte West chambers released a joint statement today, about how businesses are handling the changes.
The Quinte West Chamber of Commerce says one business has already had to close because of Bill 148, which includes the raise in minimum wage, changes to personal or sick days and others.
Quinte West Chamber Manager Suzanne Andrews says most small business owners are upset with how the province is handling their questions and concerns about the new law.
Andrews also says the chamber is asking people to be more patient and not rush to judgement, against small businesses who have had to cut paid breaks, or benefits, to deal with the quick implementation of the changes.
