The Christmas season brought out the generosity of Quinte residents and earned the Belleville Salvation Army’s Kettle Campaign an outstanding donation total.
As of last count, not including online donations, or kettle donations from Belleville Nissan and Walmart, the Kettle Campaign has raised a total of $194,366.85 this year.
That surpasses the $178,000 raised in 2016 and also surpasses the Salvation Army’s goal of $175,000 for 2017.
Director of Community and Family Services at the Belleville Salvation Army Abby Mills says she was astonished at the amount of money raised and grateful for the support from the public.
She says she hopes the visibility of the campaign will help boost the dollar amount even more and give people in need more support.
Mills says the money will go to all social services programs they offer that are important to the community. She explains what some of them are.
Other areas some money will go towards are their Summer Adventure Camp for kids aged 6-16, and the Coats for Folks free coat give away that goes on each November.
