Fire officials in Quinte West say the cause of a Christmas Day blaze has been determined to be careless smoking.
Exact details of what sparked the fire weren’t released, but Fire Chief John Whelan says his investigators, the Ontario Fire Marshal and the OPP all came to the same conclusion.
A man in his 40s was taken to a Toronto hospital after suffering significant burns, but Whelan also said no update has been given to him on the man’s condition.
The fire, which caused about $40,000 in damages, happened in the early morning at a four-plex at King and Dufferin in Trenton.
