Only two people can lay claim to swimming across all five Great Lakes, and one will be inducted into the Belleville Sports Hall of Fame on Saturday. And at age 38, Paula Stephenson becomes one of the youngest to receive the honour. Stephanson began her “drive for five” by crossing Lake Ontario in 1996. Lake Erie was next in 98. She crossed Lake Huron in 2000, Lake Superior in 2007 and Michigan two years after that. Now living in Ottawa, Paula spoke with Quinte News this week.
Stephanson was named Belleville’s Athlete of the Year in 1996 and 2009. Public induction ceremonies for the Belleville Sports Hall of Fame take place Saturday at 1 upstairs at the Quinte Sports and Wellness Centre.
