Quinte West firefighters were red hot at the National Scott FireFit Championship this past week in Ottawa.
Teams from across the country descended on the nation’s capital participate in the competition that is based on fire fighting tasks commonly performed in emergency situations. Firefighters are to wear full bunker gear with an air pack before taking on the grueling endeavour which includes a six storey stair climb, hoisting a hose to the top, chopping a hole in the roof with an axe, an obstacle course, hitting a target with water and dragging a 175 pound ‘dummy’ 100 feet back to the finish line.
Quinte West Senior Fire Prevention Officer Greg King won a gold medal in the Chief category with a time of 1:38:98 and a bronze in the over 45 category clocked at 1:38:98.
He said overall the teams had a great time competing in the event from September 6 to 10.
