A multi-jurisdictional break and enter investigation involving several hair salons across southern Ontario, where upwards of $50,000 in items were allegedly stolen, has led to charges against three Cobourg residents.
According to police, numerous hair salons were targeted stretching from Madoc, Peterborough and Port Hope to Cobourg, Northumberland County and Quinte West. Two locations in the City of Quinte West were reportedly broken into on August 3 and one in the Village of Madoc on August 6 which resulted in $6,000 to $10,000 of merchandise being stolen.
Cobourg Acting Staff Sgt. Brent Allison says in June 2017, various detectives from different services realized they were looking into a common group of break and enters. Allison said the majority of the items stolen haven’t been recovered as they were easily transferable such as hair products, salon equipment and cash. He said there were also residential entries linked to the case that occurred from April to August.
Forty-seven year-old Gerald Cooper is charged with more than 65 offences including break and enter, breaches of probation and theft. Cindy Cooper, 43 and Patrick Quinlan, 40 are charged with break and enter.
In addition, Cooper has outstanding charges with Cobourg Police Service, Port Hope Police Service and the Ontario Provincial Police and will appear in Ontario Court of Justice in Cobourg, Ontario at a future date.
Allison thanked the public and media for its assistance in getting the word out and helping in the investigation which is still ongoing.
