Prince Edward County council will be glad to see a budget report at a special meeting Tuesday afternoon.
A staff report details a good news budget situation at the end of last year.
The county ended the year with a $338,000 surplus in its operating budget.
Also, last year’s capital budget shows 69 completed or cancelled capital projects coming in at almost $3 million under budget.
Meantime, the real estate market has continued to be strong in Prince Edward County.
At tomorrow’s meeting, council will see a report from its Community Economic
and Development Commission that shows more houses being sold so far this year than in 2016.
In April, realtors sold 57 homes. The average number for April from 2014 to 2016 was 47.
Meanwhile, in March of this year, the percentage of homes selling at or above the list price was just
over 30%. In March of last year, it was only 10%.
The Commission reports that the average price of a home sold in the County recently was just over $400,000. That compares to the average price tag of $800,000 for a house in Toronto.
And, the county is getting lots of publicity, much of it free.
Also tomorrow, council will see a report from the Commission that shows news stories and features appeared in well over 100 different media and publications to the end of May.
The Commission calculates that that amount of free, or “earned media” would be worth close to half a million dollars if it had to be paid for.
Prince Edward County has become a hot topic as an attractive place to live and do business, on top of its growing reputation as a wine, culinary, and beach destination.
