All the rain causing high water levels in the bay and in Lake Ontario has closed a Belleville park for the season.
City Facilities Manager Peter Lyng told council Tuesday that Victoria Park and harbour will remain closed all summer and into the fall because of flooding.
The road into the park is basically washed out, and the sewer and electrical systems could well be compromised because of the ongoing high water levels. Bringing the park up to snuff could be costly.
Flooding at the South George Street boat launch isn’t as bad, but there could be problems with shoreline erosion when the water finally recedes sometime in the fall.
