It was a great day for a ride in the Quinte Region Sunday – a Ride for Hunger, that is.
The 9th annual event in support of Gleaners Food Bank started at Market Square in Belleville with approximately 100 riders. They left at the noon hour for Prince Edward County, then went through Deseronto to come back to downtown Belleville.
Susanne Quinlan, Director of Operations at Gleaners, explains what this event is intending to accomplish.
Quinlan says it was Al Newman, Manager of the Early Treatment Centre, who got the late spring tradition started in 2009.
Following the ride, a chicken and roasted pig lunch, a 50/50 draw and a silent auction was held for all participants.
The goal for the event was to raise $8,000 for the Tri-County Food Network. Numbers are expected to come in this week.
