It seems like MP Neil Ellis is strengthening his pitch to have a federal veterans’ centre located in Quinte West.
Ellis met with local politicians and stakeholders in Quinte West last week, including MPP Lou Rinaldi, Mayor Jim Harrison and officials from the Military Family Resource Centre, to discuss forming an advisory panel to help in attracting a veterans centre to the community.
That panel would include various key stakeholders, who would bring advice and recommendations on how to meet the eligibility requirements put forward by the federal government, to have the centre located in Quinte West.
Money has already been set aside in the federal budget to set up a veterans centre, somewhere in Canada, but a location hasn’t been decided.
Quinte West is thought by many to be the perfect place, since it hosts Canada’s largest air force base and there are many current and former military members who live in the city and the Quinte Region as a whole.
Ellis says the plan is to have the advisory panel in place by the end of July.
