A recent Toronto Star article on processed foods in Ontario had a bit of local flavour.
The article, printed in the April 1st edition, recognized Sprague Foods in Belleville as a leader in innovation for the industry.
The family business is also stepping up as an ambassador for local food in the Quinte Region, touting the benefits of stocking locally farmed products in grocery stores, as well as a shift to eco-conscious packaging and shipping methods.
Sprague was featured in the article for using equipment from Europe, which gives the company the ability to produce shelf-stable products in glass containers and for using high-quality Canadian ingredients in its soups and other products.
The company says with increased demand and further innovation, it’s expecting revenues to triple and the company plans to hire more local residents with that expansion as well.
