Legislation was quickly passed Wednesday morning that prevents local electricity distribution companies from disconnecting customers in the winter.
The Liberal government said Tuesday that it would introduce the legislation if distribution companies had not voluntarily agreed by night time to stop the practice of cutting off customers in winter.
Tuesday in Queen’s Park, MPP Todd Smith said, he pushed three times for a bill, which would stop Hydro One and other providers from shutting off power, during the cold season.
Smith, the opposition hydro critic, says although the government rejected the proposal yesterday, they brought forward their own bill Wednesday .
