The Ontario government is directing more than $6.1 million into healthcare services and facility infrastructure across Northumberland County.
MPP David Piccini announced the funding, emphasizing the province’s commitment to delivering care closer to home.
The multi-million-dollar investment will be distributed among Northumberland Hills Hospital, Campbellford Memorial Hospital, and the Community Health Centres of Northumberland.
Northumberland Hills Hospital will receive the largest portion totalling $4.58 million to support general operations, expanded surgical activity, and the replacement of its facility cooling tower.
Campbellford Memorial Hospital has been allocated over $1.4 million, which includes funding for hospital operations, infrastructure renewal, and expanding CT scanning hours to reduce diagnostic wait times.
The Community Health Centres of Northumberland will receive $189,070 through the Community Infrastructure Renewal Fund to upgrade the HVAC systems at its Port Hope location.
According to health centre officials, these climate control improvements are vital because the Port Hope facility serves as a community cooling and warming centre during extreme weather.
Hospital leaders from both Cobourg and Campbellford praised the decision, with Northumberland Hills Hospital CEO Susan Walsh noting that increased base funding is essential to meeting the needs of an aging and growing population.
Northumberland County Warden Bob Crate also expressed gratitude, stating that strong regional healthcare infrastructure is fundamental to community well-being.
