Every April to October, the Ontario Heritage Trust cultivates a showcase of heritage treasures in communities across Ontario. Quinte West’s turn is this Saturday, October 1st where several interesting sites have signed up to participate in the 5th annual event that offers the opportunity to see behind the scenes of places that are not always open or accessible to the public. Some sites that are generally open to the public will have special features on this day.
This year there are 15 sites on the tour including; Research Casting International, The Montrose Inn, Quinte Waste Solutions, The Hastings Prince Edward Counties Fire Training Complex, Grills Orchards, The Promise Land Family Fun Farm, Trenton Town Hall 1861, The National Air Force Museum of Canada, the Ontario Genealogical Society, Quinte Branch, Trenton Senior’s Club 105, Quinte West Public Library, Trenton Memorial Hospital, Wild Card Brewing Company, The Rope Store and a private residence; the McCauley Clark Home.
“Culture and Heritage play an important role in Quinte West.” said Wendy Ouellette, Chair of Doors Open Quinte West. “Mark your calendar and plan your family outing to experience this event. It’s your chance to celebrate the unique attributes of our area and discover some pretty interesting history and facts about our community in the process.”
“Although some of these sites have been on previous Doors Open tours, it is important to note that each visit will be a new experience,” explains the City’s Tourism Coordinator Jennifer Rushlow. “For example, RCI always has different projects on the floor that they may be working on; The National Air Force Museum, which is always open, this year will feature a one day only behind closed doors tour of their archives, restoration and collection storage; a featured lunch at the Trenton Town Hall 1861 will be served by WW1 field hospital nurses as you browse around their collection of medical artifacts; so there are these and many other interesting activities taking place at other sites.”
Doors Open Quinte West is a FREE self-guided tour.
