We will soon see who needs to ‘ketchup’ on their gardening skills and who gets all the bragging rights in the Striped German Tomato Challenge.
In May, Prince Edward County mayor Quaiff and councillor Steve Ferguson challenged each other to see who could grow the best Striped German Tomatoes while raising funds for Prince Edward Hospice and the Picton Splash Pad.
Mayor Quaiff says he can’t find a box big enough for his tomatoes adding that ‘city boy’ (Ferguson) doesn’t know who he is messing with.
Councillor Ferguson chuckled about His Worship referring to him as a County import. He said what what was even funnier are the photos mayor Quaiff has been sending of him of his ‘poultry little tomatoes’.
Quaiff is raising funds for the Splash Pad and Ferguson the Hospice. The victor’s charity gets all the spoils.
Judging for the best Striped German Tomato Challenge takes place at Vicki’s Veggies in Milford at 3 p.m. on Saturday September 3.
