A serious assault in Trenton has led to charges against a 20-year-old man, following a four-hour standoff with police.
AT 10:45 a.m. Quinte West OPP and Hastings Quinte paramedics responded to a residence on Robert Drive for a report of an assault.
When officers arrived on scene they spoke to a woman who told police that she had been assaulted by a man with a weapon.
Officers from the Quinte West Detachment as well as the OPP K9 unit and Emergency Response Team (ERT) set up containment at the home shortly before 3:00 p.m. officers took the man from Trenton into custody without incident.
He was charged with aggravated assault and is being held for a bail hearing in Belleville set for tomorrow.
OPP constable Dave Luddington tells Quinte News his name may be released after all of the information is sworn in.
The victim was transported to hospital by ambulance and treated for serious but non-life-threatening injuries.
