Environmental officials say, despite the heavy rain we got yesterday, things are still looking pretty rough when it comes to local water levels.
Quinte Conservation’s Christine McClure says between Sunday and Monday, the watershed received about five millimetres of rain, with Belleville getting 10 millimetres and areas in the northern part of the watershed getting as little as one millimetre.
The problem, McClure says, is that quick blasts of rain don’t help and the watershed needs about 75 to 100 millimetres of slow, steady rain, to really make a difference.
Until that rain comes, and there’s none in the long range forecast, people living in the watershed are asked to continue to conserve water and hold off on things like watering lawns, or washing cars.
McClure says a Level Two Low Water Condition is still in effect and the Low Water Response Team will meet next week to go over current conditions.
