This is Safe Kids Week and Hastings and Prince Edward Public Health has some advice for parents to help keep their children safe.
Statistics indicate the number of preventable injuries and deaths among Canadian children has dropped from 390 each year to 241.
Public Health spokesperson Kerri Gianopolous says more can be done.
She says parents should teach by example, for instance , wearing a helmet when cycling.
She says supervision is the key, including teaching children to cross the road.
Gianopolous emphasizes that young children should always be within arm’s reach when around water.
