Belleville councillor Paul Carr questioned Mayor Taso Christopher’s handling of council procedure during debate last night for not letting him explain his motion ahead of other councillors debating it.
Carr had a motion before council outlining what should be done with money the city will receive from the casino once it is in business.
The motion proposed that the money be split four ways – 85-percent to infrastructure reserve for capital projects.
Five percent each for economic development – social programs and a contingency reserve for unanticipated costs associated with the casino operation.
Other councillors wanted a staff report before making such a decision and the motion was lost on a six to three recorded vote.
