Prince Edward County Council has settled on it’s budget for this year.
County staff had brought in a proposed budget featuring a 4 and a quarter percent increase but, Mayor Leo Finnegan, says Council managed to lower that figure a bit. He says, “the way we’ve ended up (is) with a 3.19% tax increase. It’s taken a lot of talk, a lot of meetings and a lot of discussion, but I’m satisfied with that.”
Council decided to cancel free dump days, and close 2 landfill sites as part of several cutbacks to bring the increase down. It’s not known yet which dumps will be closed. The increase will mean a homeowner with a house worth 250 thousand dollars will pay another 80 dollars a year in local taxes.
