The Special Investigations Unit has ruled two Northumberland O-P-P officers didn’t commit a criminal offence when a man in Hastings broke his arm.
The S-I-U has completed its investigation into a complaint by 51-year-old John McColl, who suffered the fracture while being arrested for impaired driving on February tenth. Police responded after getting a report of a suspicious vehicle parked on Homewood Avenue in Hastings, and McColl was taken to Cobourg hospital with a broken left upper arm shortly after his arrest.
The S-I-U ruled the cause of the injury, based on medical opinion, is consistent with a fall, and there is no reliable evidence to support the allegation police used excessive force.
