Belleville will get a fourth track at the VIA Rail station as part of a 300-million-dollar federal commitment to what’s being called the largest-ever investment in passenger rail service between Montreal and Toronto.
Via Rail’s CN Kingston Subdivision Project is a series of infrastructure improvements at eight locations along the 539-kilometre, double-track rail line.
Prince Edward Hastings M-P Daryl Kramp says the new track will reduce congestion at the Station Street train station.
The project, details of which will be fully announced in early August, is expected to boost capacity on the rail line by eliminating bottlenecks and reducing delay-causing conflicts between passenger and freight trains.
