As requested, staff in Belleville has created a list of options for council to consider regarding its size and how its members are elected. In a report to be considered at today’s meeting, CAO Steve Hyndman lists five options including maintaining the status quo of eight councillors…..two from Thurlow and six from Belleville. Hyndman notes that Belleville is a growing muncipality and the workload for council members and the Mayor is increasing. One of the options includes eliminating the ward system and having councillors elected at large. Another option involves keeping the ward system and adding new councillors to be elected at large. Council could also consider adding another ward known as the Cannifton-Urban ward. City Council meets at 4:30 this afternoon.
